Political analysts and civic leaders have urged Zambians and political stakeholders to protect the nation’s democratic legacy of peaceful transitions following the August 13, 2026 general elections.
Political Analyst, Mundia Hakoola has also emphasized Observance of maturity, dialogue, and adherence to legal channels rather than confrontation as vote tallying and institutional processes continue.
Mr Hakoola said Zambia’s democratic record of transitioning seven presidents and four different political parties is quite firm and must be maintained.
“This is a country that has transitioned seven presidents and four different political parties. So the record that we have as a country is quite firm, and we need to maintain that record,” he said.
He stated that Zambia’s peace is a result of hard work and good systems, not luck.
He has urged people to value peaceful political changes and has asked losing candidates to accept election results with maturity instead of street protests, and stressed that everyone must protect the nation.
“So for us, our goal is that peace has to be maintained and people have to understand that this peace that we have enjoyed, does not come by luck, but it has come because of hard work and because of the system that is in place,” he said.
