The Kabwe Farmer’s Cooperative Society has commended Government for prompt payment of farmers who supply maize to the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) during the ongoing crop marketing season.
Kabwe Farmer’s Cooperative Society Chairperson, Eugene Mwitumwa says the prompt payment of farmers will make it easy for the farming community to prepare for the 2026-2027 farming season.
Mr Mwitumwa said in an interview with the media that the move will motivate the farmers to boost their agricultural production in the forthcoming farming season.
“We are happy with the way payments are being done for the farmers who are selling their maize to the FRA and we wish to commend the government for ensuring that there are no delays,” Mr Mwitumwa said.
Mr Mwitumwa said the paying of farmers through commercial banks and mobile money platforms has helped in reducing congestion at banks.
“The queues we used to have at the farmers whenever farmers were being paid are no longer there because of the introduction of mobile money platforms,” he said.
He said the Kabwe Farmers Cooperative Society will continue supplementing the government’s efforts in enhancing national food security through the promotion of crop diversification.
Mr Mwitumwa said the agriculture sector has a bright future in Zambia because of the good agricultural policies being implemented in the country.
