Local governance expert Wesley Miyanda has called on newly elected Members of Parliament to immediately begin working in their respective constituencies.

Mr Miyanda said the election and campaign period was over and that leaders should now focus on the broader task of developing the country.

He said Zambia should be ready to embark on the “Grow Zambia Agenda” in line with presidential pronouncements.

Mr Miyanda was speaking in a walk-in interview with ZANIS in Lusaka.

He said the goals of the Grow Zambia Agenda need to be actualised in order to translate into economic growth, create jobs and open up business opportunities for Zambians.

Mr Miyanda further called on the general public to hold newly elected leaders accountable, saying citizens should not wait until the next election period to demand accountability from those they elected.

“Our Members of Parliament are starting work and my request to all of us is to start holding them accountable now and not wait for the 2031 elections,” he said.
