 Ngabwe Town Council Chairperson Golden Kalebuka has urged farmers in the district to prepare for El Nino and stock enough maize for consumption.

Speaking when he inspected the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) depot at Chisanga area, Mr Kalebuka said the harvest the district recorded this season is encouraging hence the need for farmers to reserve enough for household food security.

And Ngabwe District Commissioner (DC) Stanley Mwendachabe said efforts are being made to ensure that FRA operations in the district are delinked from Kapiri Mposhi.

Mr Mwendachabe said this will avert the challenges farmers face during the maize purchasing process.

He said the government has transitioned to paying farmers through their mobile money accounts to avoid the security risks of moving with cash.

He stated that efforts are also being made to ensure that more satellite depots are put in place to reduce the congestion during the FRA maize purchasing process.

Farmers that are currently selling maize to the FRA have been complaining of the slow process.

Ngabwe district currently only has three FRA depots.
