ELVIS NKANDU ADMITS OPPOSITION EXISTS BUT SAYS THEY HAVE NO ALTERNATIVE POLICIES

UPND Deputy Spokesperson Elvis Nkandu has acknowledged that there is opposition in the country, but claims the opposition has failed to provide alternative policies to those being implemented by the UPND government.

Speaking on Friday’s edition of Let the People Talk programme on Phoenix FM, Mr. Nkandu dismissed the assertion that the Zambian people are the country’s biggest opposition.

He said the Zambian people cannot be regarded as an opposition because they do not have a single leader representing them, explaining that their role is to elect the government of the day.

Mr. Nkandu said while opposition political parties exist, they have only adopted and promised to improve initiatives already introduced by the UPND administration, including free education and the social cash transfer programme.

He further stated that the opposition would better serve the country by offering constructive advice to the government rather than contesting elections, arguing that they have not presented new ideas to the electorate

Meanwhile, Mr. Nkandu has attributed the continued high cost of commodities to businesses that have maintained high prices despite improvements in the country’s economic performance.
