The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has resolved to conduct a fresh Parliamentary election in Mandevu Constituency of Lusaka District.

According to a statement made available to ZANIS today, by ECZ Chief Electoral Officer Brown Kasaro, the decision follows a security incident that disrupted the aggregation of results from the August 13, 2026 general election.

Mr Kasaro stated that following a report submitted by the Lusaka District Electoral Officer on August 18, indicating that unknown individuals attacked the results-totalling centre in Mandevu Constituency, destroyed result transmission kits and fled with election documentation.

He said the incident rendered the Returning Officer unable to declare the results of the Mandevu National Assembly election.

Mr Kasaro has since advised that a date for the fresh election will be communicated in due course.
