MAKEBI Zulu’s residence was yesterday raided by police and other security agencies in the absence of his lawyers, State Counsel Sakwiba Sikota has confirmed.
Mr Sikota said the legal team was not informed about the raid despite being on record as representing Mr Zulu.
Mr Zulu was Brian Mundubile’s running in the August 13, general election whose results they disputed.
After Mr Mundubile’s home was attacked on August 14, in what Government said was a “security operation,” which resulted in the killing of a former Minister Mutotwe Kafwaya, the duo sought refuge in the United Nations compound until Thursday after which police interrogated them for hours end before being locked up in police.
But Mr Sikota questioned why the security agencies did not contact any of the lawyers before conducting the search.
“One would have expected that they would have contacted us through our mobile numbers, but they’ve not done so. We’re wondering why they didn’t contact any of the state counsel,” Mr Sikota said.
“But they didn’t inform the state counsels who are the ones who are on record representing,” Mr Sikota said.
Mr Sikota said he was not immediately aware of what the security agencies had taken from Mr Zulu’s residence.
