Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer, Robertson Mweemba, says over 700 Police Officers have been deployed to Katete District ahead of the Kulamba Traditional Ceremony of the Chewa people.

Mr Mweemba says the Police command is adequately prepared to ensure that law and order prevail before, during and after the ceremony.

Speaking to the media at his office, Mr Mweemba said Police will also ensure that road users strictly adhere to traffic rules to promote road safety throughout the ceremony.

He said the Police will be on hand to protect people and safeguard property.

Mr Mweemba has urged members of the public to take advantage of the police presence in the area and report any criminal activities.

He has further cautioned members of the public that Police will not hesitate to arrest anyone involved in unruly or suspicious activities.

The Kulamba Traditional Ceremony is expected to reach its climax on August 29, 2026, with thousands of Chewa people from Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique expected to attend.
