National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Peace (NRPUP) Candidate Banda Festone has taken an early lead in the Ukwimi Ward race in Lusangazi Central Constituency after polling 785 votes from 5 of the 6 polling stations tallied, the Electoral Commission of Zambia has announced.

According to the ECZ record of proceeding at the totalling of votes announced yesterday, August 13, 2026, a total of 1,619 ballot papers were recorded covering Kasangazi Primary School-01, Sandwe Local Court-01, Songovwa Community School-01, Ukiwimi ‘A’ Primary School-01 and Ukiwimi ‘A’ Primary School-02 centres.

Of the total votes cast, 26 ballots were rejected.

Festone Banda, led the race with 785 votes, followed by United Party for National Development (UPND)’s Phiri Enala with 655 votes, while Citizens First’s Mapeti Paul garnered 106 votes.

Mr Banda got his highest figure at Kasangazi Primary School-01 with 238 votes and at Songowe Community School-01 with 190 votes.

He also polled 160 votes at Ukiwimi ‘A’ Primary School-01 and 149 votes at Ukiwimi ‘A’ Primary School-02.

Ms Phiri led at Sandwe Local Court-01 with 138 votes and at Songowe Community School-01 with 183 votes.

Mapeti Paul’s highest return was 94 votes at Songowe Community School-01.

The totalling of results for the remaining one polling station in Ukwimi Ward is expected to be complete later today in accordance with The Electoral Process Act, No. 35 of 2016 and The Electoral Process (General) Regulations, 2021.

Final results for Ukwimi Ward Councillor will be announced once all 6 polling stations have been tallied and verified.
