ECZ announces first batch of results

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has announced the first consolidated presidential results from four constituencies out of the 226 constituencies in the country.

The four constituencies are Dongwe in Mufumbwe district in North-western Province, Feira in Luangwa district in Lusaka Province, Kundabwika in Kaputa district of Northern Province and Chisamba constituency in Central Province.

ECZ Chairperson, Mwangala Zaloumis, announced that the incumbent President, Hakainde Hichilema of the United Party for National Development (UPND) has garnered 22,476 votes from the four constituencies while Brian Mundubile of the National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) got 14,388 voted.

Mrs Zaloumis said Kelvin Bwalya of Zambia Must Prosper (ZMP) got 91 votes ahead of Socialist Party leader, Fred Mmembe with 83, while Harry Kalaba of the Citizens First has 59 votes and Movement for Economic Emancipation (MEE) president, Given Chansa got 58 votes.

Others are Brian Mushimba for the Organised People’s Party (OPP) who got 40 votes, Richard Silumbe of the Leadership Movement with 27 votes, while an Independent presidential candidate Given Katuta has 21 votes and Ackim Njobvu of the Democratic Union got 15 votes.

The rest are Howard Kunda of the Zambia Wake Up Party (ZAWAP) who got 14 while Richwell Siamunene of New Focus Party got 11 and Daniel Pule of the Christian Democratic Party has 5 votes from the four constituencies.

In Kundabwika constituency, President Hichilema got 4,160 votes while Mr Mundubile scored 3,180 and in Feira, the former received 4,900 votes and the latter got 7,885 votes.

In Dongwe constituency, Mr Hichilema got 6,848 votes while Mr Mundubile scored 143 votes and in Chisamba constituency, President Hichilema polled 6,568 and the NRPUP president got 3,180 votes.

Meanwhile, ECZ Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Brown Kasaro, announced that the Commission will this morning issue a notice indicating when the next announcement will be done.
