Zambian musician Drimz, popularly known as Mr Musiq, has called on the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development and other relevant authorities to urgently address the worsening traffic congestion at Kabwe Level Crossing and Luangwa Junction.

In a statement shared on his official social media platforms, the Kabwe-born artist expressed concern over the persistent traffic situation, saying the area requires immediate intervention due to its importance to the town’s healthcare services.

According to Drimz, the stretch of road serves two major hospitals, raising concerns about how ambulances and other emergency vehicles would navigate the heavy congestion during life-threatening situations.

“Dear Local Government and Relevant Authorities in Kabwe. The situation by Kabwe Level Crossing and Luangwa Junction needs to be worked on with a sense of emergency. This road houses two big hospitals and I shudder to think what would happen in case we have emergencies,” he wrote.

While acknowledging government’s efforts in improving the road infrastructure, Drimz appealed for temporary traffic management measures that could ease congestion as construction continues.

The award-winning singer said residents appreciate the ongoing road works but believe more can be done to manage traffic flow until the project is completed.

“We appreciate the construction of the new road, but can we find a way on how we can manage and ease the situation,” he added.

Drimz also questioned the pace of construction, wondering why it had reportedly taken nearly three months to complete approximately 1.5 kilometres on one side of the dual carriageway.

“Why has it taken close to three months to construct a 1.5-kilometre stretch of one side of the main dual road?” he asked.

His remarks have sparked discussion among residents and social media users, with many agreeing that traffic congestion around the area has become increasingly frustrating, particularly during peak hours.

Several commenters echoed his concerns, saying prolonged traffic delays not only inconvenience motorists but could also affect emergency response times and business activities within Kabwe.

Others called on contractors and government agencies to provide regular updates on the progress of the project and expected completion timelines.

The ongoing road construction forms part of efforts to improve Kabwe’s road network and reduce congestion in one of the Central Province city’s busiest transport corridors.

However, as construction continues, residents are hoping authorities will introduce practical measures to improve traffic flow and ensure emergency vehicles can access critical health facilities without unnecessary delays.

Drimz’s appeal has once again highlighted growing public concern over infrastructure development and the need to balance long-term road improvements with the immediate needs of motorists and emergency services.
