Democrats’ lead among under-50 voters surged 44 points in just months — from 2 points in fall 2024 to 46 now.

CNN chief data analyst Harry Enten walked through the new polling Thursday morning and could barely contain himself. A 44-point swing among the exact voters most likely to actually show up. “These are ‘bam’ numbers,” he said. “These are the types of numbers that blue waves are made of.” The underlying data comes from CNN polling by Jennifer Agiesta and Ariel Edwards-Levy.

Trump’s net approval with that same age group now sits at minus 41. In the fall of 2024, Kamala Harris led him among under-50 voters by just three.

“We are talking about an absolutely huge shift. A 180. Young voters are fed up, and they’re taking their anger out on President Trump,” Enten said. He described Trump as “falling through the floor,” and said the Gen Z and millennial voters who gave him a try in 2024 have put him “down there, right there underneath the ocean floor.”

Voters 50 and older have moved against Trump too, but by under 15 points, less than half as much.

It’s already bleeding into the midterms. On the question of which party voters want running the House, the Democratic lead among under-50 voters went from four points in 2024 to 17 now. Among older voters it barely moved.

“The reason that they are likely to take back the U.S. House of Representatives is not older voters,” Enten said, calling it “a titanic type of shift away from the Republican Party and to the Democratic Party.
