 Chongwe Municipal Council has welcomed four newly nominated Councilors appointed under the proportional representation electoral system.

The four Councillors were nominated by the United Party for National Development (UPND) in accordance with the Electoral Process (Amendment) Act No. 12 of 2026, which provides for proportional representation in local government.

The newly nominated councilors are; Shamiso Makumbiro and Lexina Lungu, representing women, Agnes Mwakalombe representing the youth, and Beatrice Chama representing Persons with Disabilities.

Chongwe Municipal Council Assistant Public Relations Manager, Cecilia Musonda said the inclusion of the four Councilors would broaden representation and strengthen participatory governance at local government level.

 Ms Musonda said the proportional representation system provides an opportunity for women, young people and persons with disabilities to participate more meaningfully in decision-making processes.

She said the Council looks forward to working with the newly nominated Councilors in advancing development programmes and improving service delivery to the people of Chongwe district.

Ms Musonda further said the Council remains committed to promoting inclusive governance by ensuring that different groups in society have an opportunity to contribute to the development of the district.

She said the addition of the four Councilors would complement the work of elected Councillors and strengthen the council’s efforts to respond to the needs and aspirations of the local community.

Ms Musonda congratulated the newly nominated Councilors and urged them to work closely with the council, fellow Councilors and residents in promoting sustainable development and effective service delivery.
