A 54‑year‑old Deputy Head Teacher at Harmony Primary School in Choma has been found dead in his house.

Southern Province commanding officer Moono Namalongo identified the deceased as Amon Mushakabantu.

Mr Namalongo indicated that Choma Central Police Station on September 19, 2026 around 10:45 hours received a report from Fred Munkobwe chairperson for the Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) at Harmony Primary School who reported that Mr Mushakabantu had been found dead in his house.

Mr Namalongo said the incident is reported to have occurred between September 18, 2026, at around 15:00 hours and September 19, 2026, at around 09:00 hours at Harmony Primary School.

“The deceased was on duty at the said school and was reportedly in good health. At around 14:00 hours, he complained of what was described as painful gases and requested permission from the Head Teacher to go home and rest and he left the school at around 15:00 hours,” Mr Namalongo said.

He said on September 19, 2026, at around 09:00 hours, staff members went to check on him and found the doors to his house locked.

“They peeped through his bedroom window and discovered that he was unresponsive inside the house and the matter was then reported to the police,” he said.

 Mr Namalongo said Police officers rushed to the scene and forced the door open and found the deceased inside the house.

He indicated that a physical inspection of the body revealed no visible injuries adding that there is currently no suspicion of foul play.

 Mr Namalongo said the body has since been deposited at Choma General Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem examination to ascertain the cause of death.
