A CHIPATA accountant accused of murdering his girlfriend during a sleepover at his residence has been found guilty of murder by the Chipata High Court.
Edward Mwanamuchele admitted in court to striking his girlfriend with a metal bar after discovering explicit sexual messages on her phone. However, he denied having intended to kill her.
Chipata High Court Judge Charles Kafunda rejected the defence of provocation and intoxication.
“Retaliation was so disproportionate to the alleged provocation that the provisions of section 205 of the penal code act do not avail the accused.
“The defence submission inviting the court to return a verdict of manslaughter on that basis has accordingly failed,” Mr Justice Kafunda said in his judgment.
