The Department of Health Services in Chipangali District in Eastern Province has said that clinical services in the district are currently stable with drug availability above 89 percent.

Speaking during a senior management meeting held at the District Administration Office, District Clinical Care Officer Geoffrey Ndhlovu said the 89 percent drug availability in the district reflects adequate essential medicines, essential supplies and vaccines.

Mr Ndhlovu added that three more health facilities have been opened in the district bringing the total number of health facilities to 27.

“We have opened three more health facilities in the district namely Nguluwe, Nyauzi, and Kapatamoyo health facilities which are already providing outpatient health services,” Mr Ndhlovu said.

He however mentioned that the new facilities are not fully operational as they still face challenges relating to inadequate essential equipment and supplies.

 “Currently we are not conducting deliveries in these new facilities, because the equipment we have can only support outpatient care,” he said.

He said the department has since requested for equipment through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), noting that the request was approved and awaits funding.

Meanwhile Mr Ndhlovu disclosed that the department has conducted 297 cesarean section surgeries from October 2025 to date.

He said the surgeries were conducted within the district at Muzeyi Clinic.

Mr Ndhlovu reported that all the surgeries were successful without any complications.

“All women who may require advanced care are referred to Muzeyi, so that they wait to deliver safely. So, the facility sometimes has inadequate space. In view of this, we are also lobbying for construction of a mother’s shelter and ablution block so that our mothers are well kept as they wait to be operated on,” Mr Ndhlovu said.
