CENTCOM: Commercial Shipping Continues Through Strait of Hormuz Under U.S. Military Support

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) says commercial vessels continue to transit the Strait of Hormuz, describing the waterway as an international maritime route that remains open to global shipping.

In a statement, CENTCOM said the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) does not have the authority to dictate routes for international commercial traffic through the strategically important strait.

According to CENTCOM, U.S. forces have supported the safe passage of approximately 1,000 commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz since early May. The command also said these transits included the movement of around 500 million barrels of crude oil, underscoring the waterway’s critical role in global energy supplies.

The statement comes amid heightened tensions in the Gulf and follows repeated concerns over maritime security in one of the world’s busiest oil shipping corridors.

Iran has not immediately responded to CENTCOM’s latest remarks. The Strait of Hormuz remains a vital chokepoint for international trade, with a significant share of the world’s seaborne oil exports passing through the narrow waterway each day.
