Solwezi District Anti Voter Apathy Project, (AVAP) Coordinator, Jack Lumima, says the high voter turnout recorded in the 2026 general elections is attributed to the mass voter education conducted in the district.

Mr Lumima says the voter turnout in the district, is an achievement for AVAP as it worked tirelessly to sensitise members of the public on the importance of upholding their civic duties.

He said more than 50 percent of registered voters in Solwezi North and Central constituencies cast their votes.

“AVAP conducted massive sensitisation and we worked closely with various stakeholders such as persons with disabilities, women, youths and church leaders at different levels,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mr Lumima said although some parts of the country recorded good voter turnout, some recorded low turnout calling for more sensitisation on voter education.

He has called for serious introspection on the voter turnout by ensuring that people are sensitised on the importance of their civic duties.

Mr Lumima stated that voter education should be a continuous process and not only conducted during an election year.

He said AVAP will engage partners for support to enable continuous voter education across the country.

Mr Lumima has thanked the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ), for working with stakeholders such as AVAP in sensitising members of the public on the importance of participating in civic duties like voting.
