 An 18 -year- old woman of Airstrip Compound in Mazabuka District of Southern Province has been gang raped by four unknown men in a cane field.

According to a statement issued by Southern Province Police Commanding Officer, Moono Namalongo to  the media, the victim secured the door and windows of the house where she was sleeping with her 30 -year- old sister before going to bed at around 22:00 hours.

However, two of the perpetrators who were wearing face masks broke into the victim’s house on July 18, 2026 around 01:00 hours and forcibly dragged her to a nearby cane field where they had unlawful carnal knowledge of her.

He added that other individuals joined at the scene in performing the unlawful act.

Mr Namalongo said the victim reported the matter to the police where a medical report form was issued.

He has confirmed that a docket has been opened and investigations in the matter have been instituted, though no arrest has been made at this stage.

“The Zambia Police Service strongly condemns acts of sexual violence. I can assure the public that every effort will be made to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice,” Mr Namalongo stated.
