Position: Laboratory Technician (Medical Laboratory Technologist)
Reports to: Medical Director
Location: Kitwe Polytech Hospital, Kitwe

Job Purpose:
Perform laboratory tests to confirm diagnoses and assist clinicians in patient management.

Principal Duties:

Perform complex tests on clinical specimens and provide reliable results.
Collect specimens from the required sources for analysis.
Maintain reagent and consumable stocks to prevent overstocking and shortages.
Use automated and computerised equipment for multiple tests and carry out routine user maintenance.
Help train junior staff and medical students.
Serve as laboratory or section safety officer and ensure adherence to safety guidelines.
Collect laboratory data and prepare summaries and reports for management.


Responsibilities & Decision Making:

Observe laboratory safety guidelines and account for resources under the role's charge.
Make decisions related to core laboratory work and recognise the effect of errors on patient management.


Education, Experience and Skills:

Grade 12 School Certificate and Diploma in Biomedical Sciences.
Ability to write clear English reports and communicate fluently in English.
Confidentiality, integrity and analytical skills.


Work Environment:
Laboratory and field duties; minimal physical and substantial mental effort, with exposure to infection and laboratory hazards.
