Super Division side Zesco United have officially confirmed the appointment of Mwenya Chipepo as the club’s new Head Coach.

In a statement issued Tuesday afternoon, Zesco did not disclose the duration of Chipepo’s contract.

Chipepo recently seperated with Nkana just months after being sent on forced leave.

The former Nkana and Power Dynamos coach will be assisted by Tenant Chembo, who returns to the club as First Assistant Coach.

“ZESCO United Football Club officially announces the appointment of Mwenya Chipepo as the Club’s new Head Coach. Coach Chipepo will be supported by Tenant Chembo, who joins the technical bench as First Assistant Coach.”

Chipepo had already joined the team in training over a week ago and led the side in a friendly match against Kabwe Warriors on Monday.

The club has also made changes to the rest of the technical bench. Interim coach Winston Kalengo has been dropped to the role of Physical Trainer, while Mwape Mwelwa has been appointed Second Assistant Coach.

“Mwenya Chipepo brings a wealth of experience and a proven winning record to the ZESCO United FC technical bench. A CAF Licence holder, Chipepo has coached several top-flight Zambian football clubs.

Chipepo launched his coaching career at Young Power before stints as head coach at Prison Leopards, Indeni and Forest Rangers.

On Chembo, Zesco said: “Tenant Chembo returns to ZESCO United FC bringing extensive experience both as a player and coach. Chembo has built a distinguished coaching career with ZESCO United, Mufulira Wanderers, Lumwana Radiants, Forest Rangers, Indeni and Ndola United.”

Zesco United are seeking improved performance after struggling in the 2025/2026 campaign.
