BRIAN MUNDUBILE AND MAKEBI ZULU APPEAR IN SOLWEZI COURT FOR SEDITION

The Solwezi Magistrates’ Court has adjourned to 5th and 6th October, 2026, the matter in which losing opposition National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity-NRPUP-presidential candidate Brian Mundubile and his running mate Makebi Zulu are each facing one count of seditious practices.

The duo arrived in Solwezi this morning from Mukobeko Maximum Correctional facility and appeared before Solwezi Principal Resident Magistrate Mambwe Mukonde for plea and possible commencement of trial.

Director of Public Prosecutions Gilbert Phiri, who is leading the prosecution team, said the state was ready to proceed but indicated that Mr. Mundubile applied for an adjournment because his lawyers from Mulungushi Chambers were not present while Mr. Zulu, who is being represented by Central Chambers and Makebi Zulu advocate, also applied for an adjournment to enable the defence to adequately prepare, saying he only received the charge sheet upon arrival at Solwezi Airport.

In this matter, Mr. Mundubile is alleged to have made a Facebook post claiming that the NRPUP was leading the election according to the Parallel Vote Tabulation-PVT-, and called on the Electoral Commission of Zambia to resume vote counting after the process was suspended while, Mr. Zulu, is accused of posting that Mr. Mundubile would address the nation and urged the audience to remain on standby.

And speaking to journalists after the proceedings, defence lawyer Sakwiba Sikota expressed concern that the state had not explained why his clients were appearing in Solwezi for a matter which allegedly occurred in Lusaka.
