ZMD indicated that the reduction in temperature is being influenced by a high-pressure system over the Indian Ocean, which is currently driving strong, moist, and cool airflow across Zambia.
“A high-pressure system over the Indian Ocean is currently driving strong, moist, and cool airflow across Zambia. The system is expected to remain active throughout the forecast period, resulting in windy conditions across the country.
“A reduction in temperature is expected over Western, Lusaka, Central, Southern, Eastern and Muchinga provinces,”
This is according to the weather alert issued by ZMD valid from 11th to 15th August 2026.
Owing to the anticipated drop in temperature, ZMD has advised the public to dress warmly, especially during the cooler night and early morning hours.
While individuals with respiratory conditions, the elderly and children have been encouraged to limit exposure to dust and use appropriate protective measures where necessary.
ZMD has further urged Parents and guardians to closely supervise children and ensure they are kept safe from open fires, braziers, and other heating sources to avoid unnecessary burn injuries during the cold weather.
And users of water transport have been advised to exercise extreme caution when operating on water bodies due to anticipated hazardous windy conditions.
