Zambia : VEEP Pledges Action On Chienge Development Needs

 Vice President Mutale Nalumango has reaffirmed government’s commitment to addressing key development challenges facing the people in Chienge district.

Mrs Nalumango said government remains determined to improving the road infrastructure, education, healthcare and agriculture in the district as part of efforts to improve the livelihoods of local communities.

Speaking when she graced the 2026 Builile Traditional Ceremony of the Bwile people in Chienge, the Vice President stressed that government recognises the importance of the Nchelenge-Chienge Road as a catalyst for economic growth, trade and social integration in the district.

Mrs Nalumango noted that once upgraded to bituminous standard the road will unlock the agricultural, trading and fishing potential of Chienge while also facilitating trade with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

” Construction works to tar the road have already commenced and are progressing well for this road which is very vital for the development of Chienge,” Mrs Nalumango said.

Ms Nalumango also said government is assessing school infrastructure in the district, including Ponde, Lunchinda and Lambwe Chomba Day Secondary Schools, with a view to progressively improving facilities and expanding boarding access for learners.

Meanwhile, Mrs Nalumango disclosed that the Ministry of Health has been directed to prioritise the equipment of mortuary facilities at Lambwe Chomba and Twaileta Mini-Hospitals.

Meanwhile, Mrs Nalumango, who is the matron of the Builile Traditional Ceremony, praised the Bwile people for preserving their rich cultural heritage and promoting unity through the Builile Traditional Ceremony.

” Culture remains an important pillar of national identity and unity and government remains committed to supporting traditional institutions that promote peace, community cohesion and development,” Mrs Nalumango said.

The vice President further urged the people of Chienge to maintain peace and unity and to participate in the August 13, 2026 general elections by exercising their constitutional right to vote.

She stressed that development can only be achieved through collective effort, patriotism and peace.

And the Bwile Royal Establishment has commended the New Dawn Administration for implementing various developmental projects aimed at improving the welfare of people in Chienge District.

Delivering a speech on behalf of Senior Chief Puta, National Chairperson for the Builile Traditional Ceremony Organising Committee, Kalunda Chomba, cited the commencement of works on the Nchelenge-Chienge Road as one of the key projects being undertaken by government.

Mr Chomba also commended government for the provision of free education, school meal allowances, boarding school bursaries and the construction of Chienge Boarding School.

He said the delimitation of Chienge Constituency into Chienge and Kalunguisha constituencies would help improve representation and service delivery.

Mr Chomba further said the Royal Establishment appreciated government’s continued support to farmers as a way of strengthening food security and preserving the traditional practice of Chayenkuwo, which promotes maintaining food reserves.

The 2026 Ubuilile traditional ceremony was held under the theme, “Uwa Kwensha Ubushiku Ba Mutasha Nga Bwacha,” resonating with the country’s resilience amid various economic and climatic challenges and government’s commitment to finding solutions.
