Zambia : UN Unveils 2025 Annual Results Report

The United Nations in Zambia has unveiled its 2025 Annual Results Report, highlighting the impact of coordinated partnerships in advancing national development and improving the lives of vulnerable communities across the country.

Launching the report during a media breakfast in Lusaka this morning, United Nations Resident Coordinator, Beatrice Mutali, said the report demonstrates that sustainable development can only be achieved through strong collaboration among government, development partners, civil society, the private sector, communities and the media.

Ms Mutali added that the document showcases the collective achievements made in key sectors such as health, education, women’s and youth empowerment, climate resilience, food security and the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

She stressed that the report is not merely a record of the United Nations’ work, but a reflection of the results achieved through partnerships that support Zambia’s national development priorities, while ensuring that no one is left behind.

The UN Resident Coordinator explained that this was the first time the organisation had presented its Annual Results Report directly to journalists, describing the move as an important step towards strengthening transparency and public understanding of the organisation’s contribution to Zambia’s development agenda.

She noted that the media remains a strategic partner in communicating development outcomes, amplifying community voices and helping citizens understand how policies and programmes translate into tangible benefits.

“This report reflects what we can achieve when we work together towards a common goal of sustainable development,” Ms Muntali said.

Ms Muntali, who is also preparing to conclude her tenure as United Nations Resident Coordinator later this month, said serving in Zambia has been a privilege, citing the resilience and determination of the Zambian people as a source of inspiration.

She expressed confidence that the strong partnership between the United Nations and the Zambian media will continue to promote awareness of development efforts and support the country’s journey towards inclusive and sustainable development.

Presenting one of the pillars in the report on prosperity, during the UN Media Breakfast, Food and Agriculture Organisation Projects Coordinator, Esther Chingoma, said the pillar focuses on enabling people, particularly the poor, vulnerable and marginalised, to pursue sustainable livelihoods, decent employment and entrepreneurship.

Ms Chingoma said one of the major achievements recorded in 2025 was the strengthening of skills development through the launch of the Mining Sector Skills Committee, which has enhanced coordination between industry and skills development institutions.

She added that skills planning was also strengthened through reviews in the agriculture and tourism sectors, while recommendations were developed to improve the financing and effectiveness of skills development programmes.

Ms Chingoma disclosed that 32,100 smallholder farmers and 195 Ministry of Agriculture staff were trained in climate-smart and regenerative agricultural practices to improve food security and resilience.

“Our goal is to ensure that vulnerable communities have the skills, opportunities and resilience needed to build sustainable livelihoods,” Ms Chingoma said.
