Zambia : Two Motorcyclists Die In Head On Collision In Chienge

 Two motorcyclists have died after being involved in a head‑on collision in Chienge District.

Luapula Province Police Commissioner Lucky Munkhondya has confirmed the incident, which occurred yesterday along the Mununga–Chienge Road around 19:00 hours at Katete Stream in Mwengeswa Village, under Chief Puta.

Ms Munkhondya says the accident involved two unregistered Boxer motorcycles, one ridden by 18‑year‑old Chisala Benard and the other by 32‑year‑old Chulu Justine.

She stated that Mr Chisala was pronounced dead on arrival at Chienge District Hospital, while Mr Chulu died shortly after being admitted after sustaining multiple injuries from the accident.

Ms Munkhondya stated that three passengers carried on Mr Chisala’s motorcycle sustained serious injuries and have been admitted to Chienge District Hospital.

The police commissioner identified the three passengers as Olipa Ng’andwe, 17, Nakupe Bridget,16 and Kasenga Abigail, 17.

She says preliminary investigations indicate that the accident occurred after Mr Chisala failed to keep to his near side of the road, resulting in a head-on collision with Mr Chulu.

Ms Munkhondya has since urged motorcycle riders to wear protective helmets and to observe all traffic regulations at all times.

“Motorcycle riders are urged to ensure that their motorcycles are properly registered, roadworthy, also wear protective helmets and observe all Traffic regulations at all times,”she said.
