Zambia will host the 66th International Statistical Institute World Statistics Congress from July 11 to 15, 2027.

Zambia Statistics Agency (ZAMSTATS) Statistician General, Sheila Mudenda, revealed this in Lusaka today when the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) donated 15,000 tablets and solar power banks to the agency.

Mrs Mudenda disclosed that the congress will be held at Mulungushi International Conference Centre in Lusaka.

She said preparations are already underway, adding that hosting the congress presents a significant opportunity for Zambia and Africa to showcase their statistical capabilities and innovations.

She stressed that the event will also provide an opportunity to share experiences, strengthen professional networks and promote collaboration among statisticians, researchers, policymakers and statistical institutions from around the world.

Mrs Mudenda said ZAMSTATS has already established a local organising committee and several sub-committees to spearhead preparations for the event.

She said the congress is expected to attract more than 2,000 delegates and will feature paper presentations and panel discussions, providing an opportunity for various sectors to showcase statistical products, systems and innovations.

Mrs Mudenda added that the agency is working with the government, the national statistical system and cooperating partners to ensure the successful hosting of the international event.

The Statistician General further said ZAMSTATS looks forward to continued support and collaboration from the UNFPA, the United Nations system, cooperating partners and members of the National Statistical System in advancing Zambia’s statistical development.
