Labour Commissioner Givens Muntengwa, has committed the issuance of a compliance certificate to Shaann Carriers, after being compliant with labour laws in the country.

Speaking during a joint tour in Lusaka West, Mr Muntengwa, said Shaann Carriers has been identified as a possible benchmark which can be emulated by other companies in the logistics business.

He added that the certificate to be issued, will act as a reminder on the importance of compliance and also demonstrate to the company that the Labour Commission is not ill intended in its operations.

“Our office is always having issues with most employers, but this one has zero complaints,” said Mr Muntengwa.

He said the Labour Commission will continue monitoring the company for compliance saying it can still be charged if it backtracks the progress it has achieved over the past years.

Shaan Carriers Managing Director, Charles Chikwanda, commended the office of the Labour Commissioner on its continued guidance to the organisation, stating that the presence of a functional union has ensured that the voice of every employee is heard.

Mr Chikwanda said the open-door policy with its employees has allowed the institution to have first-hand information for informed decision making.

Shaann Carriers Drivers Chairman, Joshua Chilombe, noted the improvement in treatment of employees, after being unionised, saying most of the challenges experienced have since been resolved.
