Zambia : President Hichilema Salutes Dr Monze’s Exemplary Public Service

President Hakainde Hichilema has described late Southern Province Permanent Secretary Namani Monze as a dependable public servant who served the Zambian people with integrity, commitment and humility during his tenure in public office.

Dr Monze was laid to rest at his family farm in Bwacha Ward of Choma District, where mourners gathered to pay their final respects, with First Lady Mutinta Hichilema among those in attendance.

The President, in a speech read on his behalf by Secretary to the Cabinet Patrick Kangwa, said Dr Monze distinguished himself through dedicated service across key sectors including health, education and infrastructure development.

“He was a dependable public servant who served with integrity, commitment and humility,” he said

President Hichilema further paid tribute to Dr Monze’s calm leadership style, noting that he was a civil servant who avoided controversy and instead focused on delivering results for the people.

 He said such qualities were rare and worthy of emulation by those currently serving in government.

” Dr Monze understood public office and executed his duties with diligence, his death was a profound loss to the public service and the nation at large”, he said.

He also emphasized that government would remember Dr Monze not only for his professional contributions but also for his ability to work with communities and traditional leaders in fostering development at the grassroots level.

The President said his spirit of collaboration had helped strengthen service delivery in Southern Province.

The Head of State further extended his condolences to the bereaved family, urging them to take comfort in the legacy of service and respect that Dr Monze left behind.

 “I encourage you to remain strong, as the nation stands with you during this difficult period of mourning”, he reiterated.

And Chief Hamusonde, speaking on behalf of other traditional leaders in Southern Province, praised Dr Monze for his responsiveness and inclusive leadership style.

“He was always prompt in responding to the needs of the people and made it easy for chiefdoms to work with government,” he said.

The Chief remarkably commended Dr Monze ‘s humility saying that his genuine interest in people knew no social status.

The chief also urged family members to continue comforting the widow and the children and warned against property grabbing.

The church, represented by Dr Vanny Munyumbwe, offered words of comfort to the bereaved family, urging them to remain strong and anchored in faith during the period of mourning.

“He was a dedicated Christian who supported the church and lived a life guided by faith and service,” she said.

And widow, late Dr Monze’s wife, Joleha Monze, described her late husband as a loving and respectful man who valued family and treated everyone with kindness.

“He was a caring man who showered me with love and respect and always put his family first,” she said.

The children remembered their father as a joyful and principled man who instilled values of integrity and humility in the family.

“My father was a cheerful man who lived with integrity and humility and always encouraged us to do what is right,” she said.

Family members, including his sister Kabanga Malekwa, described Dr Monze as a pillar of strength whose leadership extended beyond his professional life into the wider community.

“He was a pillar of strength to our family and a man who united everyone around him,” she said.

Though Dr Namani Monze has been laid to rest, mourners said his legacy of humility, dedication and service to the people of Southern Province will continue to inspire future generations.

The burial was also attended by former Southern Province Minister Credo Nanjuwa and, former Minister of Information and Media Cornelius Mweetwa.

Others who attended the burial include Ministry of Information and Media Permanent Secretary Thabo kawana, Central Province Permanent Secretary Milner Mwanakampwe and other senior government and UPND officials.

Dr Monze 52, died on 28th July 2026, and he is survived by a wife and four children.
