Petauke District Education Board Secretary (DEBS) Sibiziwe Musendeke has described the recently concluded General Certificate of Education (GCE) examinations in the district as a successful exercise, with no cases of examination malpractice recorded.

Ms Musendeke attributed the successful administration of the examinations to strict adherence to examination regulations by candidates, invigilators and other education personnel.

She said the smooth conduct of the examinations reflects the commitment of all stakeholders to upholding the integrity and credibility of the country’s examination system.

“The examination period has been successful. We did not record any cases of malpractice,” Ms Musendeke said.

She disclosed that the district, which had six examination centres, registered 1,172 GCE candidates, comprising 691 females and 481 males.

Ms Musendeke said 65 candidates were absent during the examinations, of whom 25 were male and 40 were female.

She added that Mathematics recorded the highest number of absentees, while English Language recorded a 98 percent attendance rate.

Meanwhile, Petauke District Commissioner Wachepa Phiri has commended the education sector for conducting the examinations in a transparent, credible and professional manner.

Mr Phiri commended officials who were in charge of invigilating the examinations for their professionalism, and urged education stakeholders to maintain such high standards in order to continue promoting integrity and excellence in the education sector.

“I have not heard of any candidate being caught for malpractice or any teacher marking examination papers at night. This is very good progress,” Mr Phiri said.
