Zambia : Newly Elected Councillors Take Oath Of Office In Chipata

 Eleven newly elected councillors from the August 13 polls in Chipata have been sworn into office.

The swearing‑in marks the beginning of their five‑year mandate to represent and serve their respective communities in Chipata.

Speaking during the swearing‑in ceremony at the Chipata City Council premises, Acting Provincial Local Government Officer Alick Peteni reminded the newly elected councillors of the responsibilities that come with their positions.

Mr Peteni urged the councillors to uphold the principles that govern office bearers of their calibre.

“As you begin your five-year mandate, you should uphold integrity, accountability, transparency, teamwork and respect for the law in the execution of your duties,” he said.

And Anti‑Voter Apathy Project (AVAP) Eastern Province Coordinator Maumba Ngoma said the organisation was pleased to witness the swearing‑in of the newly elected councillors.

Mr Ngoma urged the civic leaders to work hard and collaborate with Members of Parliament to accelerate development in their respective communities.

“We are happy to witness the swearing-in of the newly elected councillors. We encourage them not to relax, but to work hard and work together with Members of Parliament so that development can be accelerated,” Mr. Ngoma said.

Meanwhile, the newly elected councillors expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve the people and pledged to uphold their responsibilities and discharge their duties diligently.

“We are grateful for the opportunity to serve our communities, and we will uphold our responsibilities and work diligently in the interest of the people who elected us,” Mwakuta Jere, who is Msanga Ward Councillor said.
