Zambia : NAC Launches Ngoma Awards Guidelines

The National Arts Council (NAC) has successfully launched the 2026 Ngoma Awards Guidelines and the Call for Entries for submission towards the Awards.

NAC Chairperson Maureen Lilanda in a speech read on her behalf by NAC Board Member Mark Chilongu at a press briefing, said the guidelines reflect the concerns, recommendations and aspirations expressed by stakeholders.

Ms Lilanda noted that the guidelines have been refined to meet the needs of both the artistic community and the public.

“Following each edition, NAC carefully considers feedback from both the public and the technical panel. The guidelines we are launching today are the result of that consultative process,” She added.

She also said the Council has also taken great care to ensure that the guidelines reflect the voices of artists, while safeguarding the integrity of the awards process.

Ms Lilanda charged that the Ngoma Awards remain a beacon of hope for Zambia’s arts sector, further saying the awards recognise excellence across all artistic disciplines and provide both technical and public recognition that opens new opportunities for Zambian artists.

“I also wish to encourage all organisations that host arts awards in Zambia to emulate this progress by ensuring that their awards are authorised by NAC. This will help guarantee that all awards are governed by clear rules and guidelines and benefit from the technical oversight provided by the Zambia Arts Adjudicators Panel,” he added.

She explained that the Ngoma Awards recognise excellence in a wide range of artistic disciplines, including Media Arts, Stage and Popular Theatre, Traditional Music and Jazz, Creative Writing, Visual Arts, Music, Fashion and Comedy.

“I therefore call upon all artists who have produced outstanding work since the last awards ceremony to submit their entries for the Ngoma Awards 2026,” she added.

Ms Lilanda also appealed for greater coverage of the creative sector, adding that Zambia has exceptional artistic talent and that media platforms can help showcase creativity, preserve cultural heritage, as well as inspire future generations.

Meanwhile, President of the Zambia Arts Adjudicators Panel (ZAAP) Moddy Muponisi said the 2026 guidelines will serve to ensure transparency, guarantee fairness, raise standards and protect integrity.

Ms Muponisi said creative association leaders must take the guidelines as a tool to help them mobilise and guide members toward competitive, world-class submissions.

She disclosed that workshops will be held to increase awareness on the submission process for award entries.

The Ngoma Awards are slated to take place on December 12, 2026
