President Hakainde Hichilema has pledged to construct a dual carriageway from Lusaka to Livingstone if re-elected in the August general election.

Speaking during a community engagement in Mazabuka, President Hichilema said the proposed road project would help ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity between the two cities. He said the government’s ability to deliver major infrastructure projects is evident in the ongoing construction of the Lusaka–Ndola Dual Carriageway.

The President also promised to upgrade Mazabuka District Hospital into a fully-fledged general hospital with modern medical facilities and establish a skills training centre to equip young people with skills needed in the labour market.

In his address, President Hichilema challenged opposition political parties that claim to enjoy widespread public support to demonstrate it through the democratic electoral process.

He also criticised former UPND member Gary Nkombo, accusing him of turning against the party after benefiting politically from it. The President further alleged that Mr. Nkombo did not support Constitution Amendment Bill No. 7, which he said was aimed at increasing the representation of women, youths, and persons with disabilities.

Meanwhile, former Health Minister Elijah Muchima reaffirmed his support for President Hichilema and the UPND, citing what he described as the party’s development achievements for the Zambian people.
