President Hakainde Hichilena says government will prioritise to work on the D769 Mongu-Itezhi Tezhi junction road which has been in a poor state for a long time.

President Hichilema says funds were released in the previous government for the road to be worked but ended in individuals ‘pockets as it remains in a poor state.

Among other roads President Hichilema pledged to work on include those that connect Itezhi Tezhi road to Namwala, Mumbwa, Lubwe, Basanga, Dundumwenzi among others to improve the movement of goods and services.

Speaking during a community engagement at Nakabangwe School in Itezhi Tezhi District, President Hichilema urged people to vote for the United Party for National (UPND) in the forthcoming elections in order to continue with the country’ social and economic development.

President Hichilema reminded citizens that free education is now permanent after he signed into law the free education policy.

He added that his administration has restored law and order, with markets and bus stations experiencing peace.

The President stated that Itezhi Tezhi district now has two constituencies, which will translate into more development.

“If you vote for the UPND, we will build more schools, clinics, palaces for the six chiefs in the area, feeder roads, improve water and sanitation. We will build additional boarding schools, bring a skills training centre, and also bring a district hospital in the area,” President Hichilema said.

He noted that the district needs a well-equipped hospital, unlike patients being referred to Mumbwa.

And the President noted that challenges being faced by fishermen in the area will be addressed.

On mining, President Hichilema called for legal mining saying that local small scale miners will be given licences, to ensure safety as the government creates markets for them.

The Head of State assured more depots in the district adding that those supplying maize to the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) will now receive their money within two days.

“We will make additional slots under the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP) to on board more beneficiaries,” he added.

He also discouraged the movement of animals saying that they may transport diseases.

Representing traditional leaders in the district, Chief Chikaza Munyama pledged to rally support for President Hichilema and the UPND stating that the country has witnessed massive development in various sectors.

Chief Chikaza Munyama also appreciated the President for ensuring that all chiefdoms in Itezhi Tezhi are not left out in national development.

He added that all six traditional leaders in the area have acknowledged that President Hichilema has prioritised the needs of the people through implementation of social programmes that are improving the living standards of people.

“Chiefs in Itezhi have appreciated the development seen in the shortest period that you have been President. We therefore pledge to support him in the forthcoming elections so that development continues,” Chief Chikaza Munyama said.

And Itezhi Tezhi West UPND candidate, Twaambo Mutinta commended President Hichilema, noting that the district was not left out even when he represented the constituency as an independent.

Mr Mutinta highlighted various developments through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) such as construction of classrooms and distribution of desks among others.

He said health facilities are well equipped with medicines adding that vulnerable people are benefiting from the social protection programmes.

Mr Mutinta assured that the district will give the President Hichilema a 100 percent vote in the general elections.

UPND aspiring candidate for Itezhi Tezhi East, Credo Nanjuwa pledged to construct additional classrooms at Nakabangwe Secondary school which only has three classrooms.

Patriotic Front (PF) faction leader, Miles Sampa urged the people to support President Hichilema in the forthcoming elections.

And former Fisheries and Livestock Minister in the PF administration, Greyford Monde encouraged the residents to choose a leader who has the capacity to build and develop the country, noting that President Hichilema is the ideal choice.
