The UPND says the party has neither enticed nor instructed anyone to petition an election.

Party National Management Committee member Elvis Nkandu has also refuted allegations that the decision by some losing UPND Members of Parliament to petition their seats is evidence that the elections were not free and fair.

In an interview, Mr. Nkandu has expressed concern over what he described as a perception that freedoms and rights should only be exercised by people in the opposition.

He said the decision by members of the ruling party to challenge an election in a constituency does not negate the freeness, fairness or credibility of the overall electoral process.
