MPUNDU PLEADS WITH HH FOR DIALOGUE

Opposition politician Binwell Mpundu has made a direct appeal to President Hakainde Hichilema to open the door for dialogue and help restore peace and political tolerance in Zambia.

Mpundu said the country’s political environment had become increasingly hostile and warned that continued divisions could have serious consequences if political leaders failed to act.

The appeal marks a notably different tone from some of Mpundu’s remarks during the election period, when he declared that he was ready to die for what he believed in.

Now, Mpundu is calling for political leaders to move away from confrontation and sit around the table to find common ground.

“Let us sit on the table and agree on a better path for our country,” Mpundu pleaded.

He said Zambia needed to return to a period when political leaders respected one another and citizens felt secure despite their political differences.

“Our politics has become primitive and dirty, and if we do not act now and act right, we are paving the way for trouble,” he said.

Mpundu appealed directly to President Hichilema to help lead the country towards a more peaceful political culture, saying dialogue remained the responsible path forward.

“I am taking that first step. I am reaching out to President HH for peace,” Mpundu said.

He urged political leaders to treat one another with respect and dignity, regardless of their political affiliations, stressing that Zambia’s interests should come before political differences

“The time to talk is now, for tomorrow will be too late,” he said.

Mpundu’s latest message effectively places the ball in the President’s court, with the opposition politician asking President Hichilema to create space for dialogue, reconciliation and a more peaceful political environment.

From declaring during the elections that he was ready to die for his cause to now extending an olive branch to the Head of State, Mpundu’s latest appeal signals a call for a different approach to Zambia’s political discourse.
