Speaking when he made a spot check at the Solwezi Main FRA depot in Solwezi, Colonel Katambi (Retired) said his office has received reports on the challenges being faced at the depot.
ZANIS reports that Col. Katambi said his office was working with FRA to find ways of addressing the challenges to help facilitate the floor buying process.
“I have taken time to interact with you here because I want to see how things are going and see what we can do about it,” Col Katambi stated.
The Permanent Secretary has since urged the officers to increase the pace at which people are being attended to and put in extra effort.
“We will increase manpower and bring in more scales and other tools to expedite the workflow,” he added.
Meanwhile, Col Katambi has directed FRA officers to prioritise attending to people with special needs adding that they should not be subjected to spending days at the depot.
“People with disabilities, the aged and pregnant women should not be made to stand in queues, attend to them as fast as possible,” he emphasised.
The Permanent Secretary also took advantage of the opportunity to advise the farmers to take responsibility for securing the maize they take to FRA as they wait to be attended to.
Meanwhile, Solwezi Main FRA depot officers assured the Permanent Secretary of working hard and surpassing daily targets, while also appealing to farmers to follow the buying procedure.
Speaking on behalf of the farmers, Edward Sakuwaha stated the need for increased manpower at the depot to help expedite the work before the rains destroy the maize.
