TONSE ALLIANCE CONFIRMS SUSPENSION OF SECRETARY GENERAL PENDING DISCIPLINARY PROCESS
Lusaka, 9 September 2026
The Tonse Alliance wishes to inform its members, supporters, stakeholders, and the general public that Dr. Chris Zumani Zimba has been suspended from his duties as Secretary General pending investigations and possible disciplinary proceedings.
The suspension follows concerns regarding a series of unauthorised press statements, social media postings, and public releases attributed to Dr. Zimba, which the Alliance leadership considers to have brought the organisation into disrepute.
The President of the Tonse Alliance, Mr. Brian Mundubile, invoked Article 13(6) of the Tonse Constitution in effecting the suspension. The relevant Alliance structures, including the Chairman and the National Legal Affairs Chairperson, have also been directed to activate the disciplinary provisions under Article 16.
During the period of suspension, Dr. Zimba is not authorised to report to the Secretariat, issue statements in the name of the Tonse Alliance, or use the title of Tonse Secretary General or Advisor to the President or organisation. He has further been directed to hand over Alliance property and documents in his possession to First Vice President Chifumu Kingdom Banda, SC.
The Alliance wishes to emphasise that suspension is an administrative measure pending due process and should not be interpreted as a final determination of guilt. Formal allegations will be presented to Dr. Zimba for his response and explanation in accordance with the procedures outlined in the Alliance Constitution.
The Tonse Alliance remains committed to internal democracy, discipline, collective responsibility, fairness, and respect for established constitutional procedures. Members are therefore urged to remain calm and avoid speculation or statements that may prejudice the disciplinary process.
The Alliance leadership will communicate further developments through authorised channels when necessary.
