Zambia : Church Urges Integrity, Impartial Policing Ahead Of Polls

The Lusaka Ministers Fellowship has called on all stakeholders in the electoral process to uphold integrity and adhere to the Electoral Code of Conduct to ensure peaceful general elections next Thursday.

Lusaka Ministers Fellowship Acting Chairperson, Christopher Mwale, says political parties, candidates and citizens have the responsibility to conduct themselves peacefully and respect the country’s electoral laws throughout the voting process.

Bishop Mwale adds that the Zambia Police should enforce the law fairly by taking action against anyone who breaks it regardless of political affiliation.

The Clergyman says selective application of the law has the potential to undermine public confidence in the electoral process.

 Bishop Mwale also appealed to the media to report accurately, fairly and responsibly by avoiding premature election results announcement and unverified information that could inflame tensions.

Meanwhile, Bishop Mwale has called on the church in the country to remain non-partisan, saying it should continue serving as a moral voice that promotes peace, love, reconciliation and national unity rather than aligning itself with any political party.

He explained that the church’s responsibility before, during and after elections is to preach love, forgiveness, tolerance and reconciliation so that the country remains united despite political differences.

Bishop Mwale also disclosed that the Lusaka Ministers Fellowship has been holding regular intercessory prayers across the city since January, bringing together pastors from different constituencies to pray for peaceful, free and fair elections.

He further urged all Zambians to safeguard the country’s peace, saying violence would only undermine the freedoms which citizens have enjoyed over the years.

“Let us avoid fighting. Let us avoid name-calling. Let us avoid hate speech. Zambia is bigger than all of us. Love yourselves and love your neighbour,” Bishop Mwale said.

 He has since encouraged eligible voters to turn out in large numbers and exercise their democratic right peacefully, saying Zambia’s long-standing peace should be protected by every citizen before, during and after the August 13, 2026 general elections.
