North-Western Province Permanent Secretary, Colonel Grandson Katambi (RTD), says the Catholic Church has been the government’s key partner in national development.

Speaking during the ordination of four deacons into priesthood under the Solwezi Diocese, held at Solwezi’s St Daniel’s Cathedral , Colonel Katambi, said the cordial relationship between the two has helped to accelerate national development in various sectors.

He appreciated the church’s investment in education, healthcare, social justice and other initiatives.

Colonel Katambi said the government is also working hard to improve the lives of people, as evident from the increase in the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) which has components that cover areas such as infrastructure development and skills development through empowerment.

He congratulated the newly ordained priests and encouraged them to uphold the principles of the Catholic Church by promoting justice, uplifting the poor and strengthening families in communities.

Colonel Katambi further called on families to support the newly ordained priests as they begin a new chapter of their lives.

Meanwhile, Solwezi Diocese Bishop, Charles Kasonde, who was the Principal Celebrant said the ordination marks a significant chapter in the lives of the new priests.

Bishop Kasonde explained that being ordained a priest is one of the greatest acts of service in the Catholic Church.

He encouraged them to be change makers by helping people draw closer to God.

Bishop Kasonde urged the priests not to relent even when they are faced with challenges in their ministry.

“In this ministry you have entered, you will be faced with both good and difficult days but do not give up, pray about it and seek guidance,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of the newly ordained priests, Fr Vincent Chisenga, expressed gratitude to the church, families and community for their support adding that the support rendered to them has helped them to successfully undergo priesthood.
