Zambian champions Power Dynamos and Sudanese giants Al Merrikh have stepped up preparations for Saturday’s crucial return leg tie of the CAF Champions League First Preliminary Round at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.

Al Merrikh hold a 1-0 advantage from the first leg played at Amahoro Stadium in Kigali, Rwanda last Saturday night.

Power Dynamos have continued with training in Kitwe since arriving there on Monday morning.

Power Media Officer Faith Kaira said the team’s desire is to overturn the deficit on home soil.

“The general expectation is to turn the result around. We have to be aggressive and ensure we score, utilize chances and win,” Kaira told Lusaka Times Sports.

Aba Yellow will be banking on home support in Ndola to overturn the narrow loss and keep Zambian hopes alive in Africa’s premier club competition.

Meanwhile, Al Merrikh arrived in Ndola on Tuesday afternoon via Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe International Airport and went straight into their first training session.

Two days before the team’s arrival, the club had sent its Public Relations Manager Khaled Aziz as part of an advance party.

“PR Manager, Bashm Engineer Khaled Aziz, has arrived in Ndola, Zambia, as part of the club’s early arrangements to receive the team delegation and prepare all the requirements for its residence before facing Power Dynamos,” the club wrote on its official Facebook page.

The winners on aggregate will advance to the Second Preliminary Round scheduled for 16-18 October and 23-25 October.

The 16 winners from that round will progress to the group stage at the end of November.

The losing teams from the First Preliminary Round drop into the CAF Confederation Cup.

Kickoff for Saturday’s match at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium is 15h00.
