VLOGGER FACES JUDGMENT TODAY OVER CLAIMS CHIPO MWANAWASA WAS PREGNANT FOR PRESIDENT HICHILEMA

The Lusaka Magistrates Court is today expected to deliver judgment in a case in which vlogger Joseph Chishimba is accused of harassing Special Assistant to the President for Public Policy, Chipokota Mwanawasa, by circulating allegations that she had a relationship with President Hakainde Hichilema and was pregnant for him.

Lusaka Principal Resident Magistrate Idah Phiri set today, September 9, 2026, for judgment after the defence was heard and the State closed its case.

Chishimba, 47, of Jack Township, faces one count of publication of information contrary to Section 54 of the Cyber Security and Cyber Crimes Act No. 2 of 2021.

It is alleged that between October 9 and October 14, 2024, in Lusaka, Chishimba used a mobile phone to post a screenshot from a Facebook page in a WhatsApp group called “Zambia Politics”, accompanied by a caption claiming that Ms. Mwanawasa was an ex-girlfriend of the President and that he was responsible for her pregnancy.

The State argued that the publication compromised Ms. Mwanawasa’s safety and security. During trial, Ms. Mwanawasa told the court that the allegations brought shame to her name, her family and the Presidency. She said she was shocked by the claims and learnt of them while on official duty in Greece.

In his defence, Chishimba denied publishing the material and told the court that he knew nothing about the screenshot or the WhatsApp group in question.
