THERE is every reason to vote for the UPND, don’t go back to the old times, President Hakainde Hichilema has told Choma residents.

And President Hichilema says to have Bill 7 go through, Parliament he had to solicit support of opposition MPs but that he now needs more MPs to avoid a similar situation in passing legislation.

Addressing a rally at Choma Day Secondary School, Friday, President Hichilema used the Biblical story of Moses facing resistance from Israelites who at one time demanded to be returned to Egypt.

“We have done the heavy mixing, debt restructuring, peace, employed 40,000 teachers, employed over 20,000 medical staff, employment of soldiers, ZAF, Police. Correctional Service, in the mines. There is every good reason to vote for the UPND government. Don’t go back to the past where you were beaten. Let’s go forward, let’s leave Egypt and go to Canaan. Go where? To Canaan. Don’t be like the people in the Bible who complained to Moses that we used to eat well and get buried well in graveyards, that is madness. Let’s go forward by voting for the UPND,” President Hichilema said.

He said the UPND had managed to fundamentally change the country.

He urged Zambians to vote for the UPND so that the country can continue on its progressive economic recovery.

“Don’t vote for candidates of different colours. All candidates of the UPND should be voted for, MP’s should be voted for, mayors should be voted for. Will you give me a vote? Yes, people of Choma you are lovely people,” President Hichilema said .

President Hichilema said he has been to all provinces for campaign rallies and that Southern was his last, adding that all provinces are in agreement with re-electing him back into office.

“Do you agree to vote for the UPND this year? We want to win by over 5 million votes,” President Hichilema said.

He promised Choma residents that he will have a word with a contractor doing the township roads, and pledged to build a big fully equipped General Hospital as the district hospital cannot cope with the growing population of the Southern Province administrative headquarters.

President Hichilema also pledged to build an International Airport saying being a Choma resident, the town was special to him.

He further promised to ease the environment of doing business in Choma.

“We are bringing brand new International Airport here in Choma. We will commence construction very soon. Township roads here have delayed, it is my priority, we will need to have more township roads done here. Don’t lose your luck, I am here now, my eyes are open, I can see,” President Hichilema said.

He promised to commence rehabilitation works on some damaged parts of the Choma-Namwala road to reduce accidents.

“There are independents who are saying I sent them. I have never sent anyone. Would I be in the right frame of mind to support an independent instead of my own candidates. For Bill 7 we had to solicit for votes from opposition MP’s because we did not have the numbers. This time, we need more MP’s,” said President Hichilema.

He also promised to increase the number of farmers receiving Farmer Input Support Programmes, and accused the NRPUP team of trying to copy his policies which they did not do while in power.
