The Zambia National Service (ZNS) has completed the first phase of rehabilitation works at the University of Zambia (UNZA), paving the way for the institution to reopen for students.

ZNS Commander Lieutenant General Maliti Solochi said the rehabilitation works have been successfully completed and that the university is now ready for occupation.

Speaking during a tour of the completed and ongoing works in Lusaka, Lieutenant General Solochi said the University of Zambia management will announce the official reopening date.

He also appealed to students to take responsibility for safeguarding the newly rehabilitated infrastructure to ensure it remains in good condition.

Meanwhile, ZNS Chief of the Land Development Branch, Brigadier General Jephan Mukanda, said construction works on the university’s pump house are still underway but will not interfere with operations when students return.

Brigadier General Mukanda added that the Service is in the final stages of replacing hostel doors, with only 25 doors remaining to be installed. He said the exercise is expected to be completed by tomorrow.

He further disclosed that ZNS has deployed 47 units across the university to undertake various rehabilitation works, with teams working around the clock to ensure the project is completed on schedule.
