POLICE in Solwezi have confirmed that two suspects have been apprehended in connection with the fatal shooting that occurred on Friday, July 10, 2026, in Kandemba Compound, Solwezi District.

According to a statement issued by Police Public Relations Officer, Godfrey Chilabi, the first suspect was arrested on the day of the incident. He has been identified as Private Kayombo Sakayi, aged 40, a Zambia National Service (ZNS) soldier based in Solwezi.

Mr. Chilabi said Pvt. Sakayi sustained injuries during the incident and remains admitted to hospital under police guard.

The second suspect, Samuel Mupila, aged 31, of Solwezi, was arrested at around 13:00 hours on Friday, July 11, 2026. Police said Mr. Mupila had fled the scene immediately after the shooting but was later apprehended during an intelligence-led operation. He is currently in police custody.

“Following the incident, police have opened a docket of case for murder, and investigations are ongoing,” Mr. Chilabi stated.

The shooting in Kandemba Compound has caused concern among residents, with many calling for calm as police conclude their investigations.

Authorities have not yet released the identity of the victim or the motive behind the shooting.

Police say they will provide further updates as investigations progress.
