Chongwe Fire Brigade on Sunday, 23 August 2026, retrieved a body of an unidentified man from Sunrise Dam in Silverest area.
Chongwe Municipal Council Assistant Public Relations Manager Cecilia Musonda said the fire brigade received a report of suspected drowning at around 15:59 hours, prompting officers to immediately attend to the incident.
Ms Musonda told the media that the deceased was an unidentified adult male believed to be aged between 35 and 37 years, discovered by members of the public who were fishing in the area.
She said upon arrival at the scene, fire brigade officers found the body floating near the water bank and immediately commenced recovery operations.
Ms Musonda explained that the officers successfully retrieved the body from the dam and handed it over to Zambia Police officers for further investigations and other necessary procedures.
She further said the body was later deposited to Chongwe District Hospital Mortuary, awaiting a postmortem examination to establish the cause of death, while police are expected to assist in establishing the identity of the deceased.
