Two Siblings Detained Over Alleged Murder of Cousin in Lusaka

Two siblings aged 18 and 15 have been detained by police in Lusaka in connection with the alleged murder of their 22-year-old cousin, Susan Zulu.

The two siblings, a male aged 18 and his 15-year-old sister, were detained after information they provided during police interviews reportedly led officers to the Mungule area of Chibombo District, where the body of a woman was discovered.

According to the Zambia Police Service, the matter dates back to September 17, 2026, when a report of Conversion Not Amounting to Theft of Motor Vehicle was made at Kabwata Police Station involving a silver Toyota Axio belonging to the siblings’ parents.

Police said preliminary investigations indicate that the 18-year-old allegedly took the vehicle without his parents’ consent and was accompanied by his younger sister and Zulu.

Later that day, the vehicle was reportedly involved in a hit-and-run road traffic accident along Zimba Road in the Madras area, in which an eight-year-old pedestrian sustained multiple injuries.

The child was admitted to the University Teaching Hospital and is reportedly in critical condition.

On September 18, the same vehicle was involved in another road traffic accident along Lumumba Road, after which the three occupants allegedly abandoned it.

Police said the two siblings later returned home on September 21, while Zulu remained unaccounted for.

Their parents subsequently took the siblings to Kabwata Police Station in connection with the motor vehicle case.

During interviews conducted on September 22, the siblings reportedly provided information that led police officers to the Mungule area, where members of the public had discovered the body of an unidentified female at around 10:00 hours on September 21.

The body was collected by officers from Ngwerere Police Station and deposited at the University Teaching Hospital Mortuary.

Zulu’s relatives later accompanied police officers to the mortuary, where they identified the body as that of their missing relative.

Police said the body had visible injuries which, based on preliminary investigations, may have resulted from an alleged physical confrontation involving the deceased and the two siblings.

However, the circumstances surrounding Zulu’s death have not yet been conclusively established.

A post-mortem examination is still pending and is expected to help determine the cause of death.

The two siblings remain in police custody as investigations continue into the circumstances leading to Zulu’s death, the vehicle incidents and the events that occurred before her body was discovered.

The Zambia Police Service has indicated that further information will be provided as investigations progress.

The siblings have not been convicted of any offence, and the allegations against them remain subject to police investigations and the legal process.
