United Party for National Development (UPND) candidate Thomas Sipalo has been elected Member of Parliament for Munali Constituency, promising to unite residents and focus on development following his election victory.

In a statement issued after the announcement of the results, Sipalo thanked the people of Munali for their support and urged residents to put politics aside and begin working together for the benefit of the constituency.

Declaring “MULUNGU PATSOGOLO,” Sipalo said the election campaign had come to an end and that the time had come to focus on improving the lives of the people.

“The campaign period is over. It is now time to unite and work together,” Sipalo said.

The newly elected lawmaker also thanked God for the victory and expressed appreciation to President Hakainde Hichilema for what he described as unwavering support and leadership during the campaign period.

Sipalo also congratulated President Hichilema on securing a second term in office following the 2026 General Elections.

He went on to acknowledge the role played by his campaign team, including campaign manager Patrick Samwimbila, the Constituency Executive, ward and branch officials, as well as members of the “Tiikosesa” campaign team.

According to Sipalo, the victory was the result of tireless efforts from individuals who worked around the clock to secure the parliamentary seat.

However, he emphasized that the victory should not be viewed as a victory for one political party alone.

Instead, he described the result as a victory for all the people of Munali, regardless of their political beliefs.

“To all the people in the five wards of Munali, this victory belongs to every single one of you, regardless of your political affiliation,” he said.

Sipalo assured residents that his office would remain open to everyone, including those who did not support his candidacy.

“We will endeavor to represent everyone, including those who didn’t vote for us. It is not my victory but ours as the people of Munali,” he added.

In a gesture aimed at promoting reconciliation, Sipalo also extended an olive branch to his political opponents, including Chrispin Chiinda, Obbie Chomba, Chimbalanga Semba, Mvunga Agaton and other candidates who participated in the election.

He called on all former rivals to work together to promote development within the constituency.

“To all candidates who participated, we are one family. Let us work hand in hand for the progress of Munali. Please reach out,” Sipalo said.

The new Member of Parliament outlined his priorities, promising to place greater emphasis on development while reducing political confrontations.

He identified employment, education, healthcare and market infrastructure as some of the key areas his leadership intends to prioritize.

His message of “more development and less politics” has already attracted attention from residents eager to see how his administration will address the challenges facing one of Lusaka’s largest and most densely populated constituencies.

Sipalo takes over from former Munali Member of Parliament Mike Mposha, who contested the Malambo East parliamentary seat but was defeated by independent candidate Faith Lungu.

With the election now concluded, residents of Munali will be closely watching how the newly elected MP translates his campaign promises into practical development projects.
