Constitutional Court orders Auditor General to vacate office
The Constitutional Court has ordered Auditor General Dr Ron Mwambwa to vacate his office for being above the retirement age.
In 2023, Parliament rejected President Hakainde Hichilema’s appointment of Dr Mwambwa who was 64 at the time as unconstitutional as Article 252 of the Zambian Constitution provides that the Auditor General shall retire from office on attaining the age of 60 years.
But to keep in office, the UPND conveniently allowed Mwamba to remain in an acting capacity, making perhaps the longest serving acting Auditor General in Zambia’s history.
But today, the Constitutional Court has ordered that 67-year old Dr Mwambwa, 67, vacates office to pave way for the government to appoint a substantive Auditor General.
