VICE-President Mutale Nalumango has urged civil servants to study the UPND manifesto, in order to implement government policies effectively.

Addressing public service workers in Kabwe, Thursday, Vice-President Nalumango said it would be sad if people signed a contract with a political party based on a song.

She said public service workers must not shy away from understanding government policies and party manifestos.

“You told me you work with the government of the day, and then policies come through politics, through political parties. When a political party forms government, they must have a manifesto. Don’t be shy to study the manifesto of anyone who is offering themselves to lead the nation because next week, you’ll be signing a contract, and the contract will be with a political party. Can you imagine how sad that people may go to sign a contract based on a song? How would you feel if people sign a binding contract for five years without knowing what this political party is promising, just because they said something?” Vice-President Nalumango asked.

“You can’t be ashamed if you’re in a government like today’s government, like the UPND, without understanding their policies. You have to understand the policies, where they are coming from and what they are saying. This manifesto is what will make you sign the contract. You don’t go to sign a contract without knowing the terms and conditions. We then bring the policies to you to implement when they are clear and you understand them. What then have you done to the rest of government? We have delivered”.

She added that public service workers were valued beyond their salaries, stressing that salaries should not define service delivery, as they had a duty to serve.

Meanwhile, Vice-President Nalumango said government intends to produce 10,000 Megawatts of electricity, enabling the export power to other countries.

“We have the intention of producing 10,000 Megawatts of power. We are looking at that so that we can sell to the outside world, beyond Zambia. This government is not aiming just for politics, it is aiming to serve the Zambian people. There will be no load shedding. Luapula’s demand is 30 megawatts, but they have installed 10 Megawatts from Musonda Falls, they have four megawatts from Mansa sugar and have also installed 50 Megawatts of solar power, bringing the total to 64 Megawatts, while the demand is only 30. So do you think they can have load shedding?” said Vice-President Nalumango

“We are saying we want 10 million metric tonnes of maize because farming is business, and the reason we are aiming for 10 million is because we want to sell. Selling is very important, you have to sell something in order to earn something. A country that cannot sell anything cannot earn, which is why this President is saying we have to have something to sell. We are saying we will produce more maize so that we can sell and income can come to Zambia”.
